Barratt Homes are part of Barratt Developments Plc, one of the nations leading housebuilders with expertise in land, design, construction, sales and marketing. Barratt Homes have worked in partnership with Network75 since 2012, providing opportunities to Marketing and Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management students.
Claudia Schiavo graduated from the Network75 scheme in 2017 and has continued her career with her host company Barratt Homes. Network75 caught up with Claudia to see how her career has progressed post-Network75 and her role as a Mentor to current Network75 student Holly-Rose Jenkins.
"Wow! Where have the years gone? Back in October 2012, I successfully gained a Network75 placement and began my career with Barratt Homes. Just over 8 years on, after a successful 5 years on the Network75 scheme and achieving a 2:1 BA (Hons) Marketing degree, I am still lucky to be a valuable team member of the marketing department.
Since being offered the opportunity to continue my career in May 2017, Lewis (Marketing Manager) and I have been busy launching new developments across South Wales. Due to our ever-increasing workload, we took the opportunity for a new Network75 student to join the team. As a Network75 graduate, I will Mentor Holly-Rose for the duration of her Network75 journey.
Holly-Rose has been a great asset to the team while excelling at University and has developed her skills and knowledge over the last 2 years whilst working in a fast-paced environment. The scheme has allowed us to contribute to Holly’s learning and development and we can’t wait to see her progress over the next few years!".
Holly-Rose Jenkins is Barratt Homes' most recent Network75 student, joining their marketing team in 2019. Holly-Rose completed her A-Levels at Coleg-y-Cymoedd before choosing Network75 as a way of pursuing her career aspirations.
"I first heard about Network75 from my boyfriend, who is a Network75 Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management Trainee. Network75 honestly sounded too good to be true! I have always wanted to earn a degree and continue my education but was concerned about finishing university with little to no hands-on experience and student debt. The scheme offered me the chance to experience the best of both worlds, and I am so glad that I took this opportunity!
I chose to study the BSc (Hons) Marketing Management course via Network75 as I have always had an interest in marketing and knew this could be a great career to pursue. After successfully passing the USW interview stage of the process, I received invitations to interview at host companies across South Wales. I was excited to interview with Barratt Homes as I currently live in a Barratt home with my family. I remembered how happy my parents were with the purchasing experience, and knew that they were a great company to work for. I was absolutely thrilled to be offered a placement with them, knowing the Network75 scheme would take my life in such an amazing direction.
During the last 16 months at Barratt Homes, I have learnt so many new skills. Working in such a fast-paced environment three days a week with the marketing team, I am constantly involved in new projects and thoroughly enjoy my role. I have attended training events in London and Birmingham, which were both beneficial experiences. I gained so much confidence that I did not know I had, and also so much knowledge. Combining my placement with part-time university for two days a week has been incredible for me. It allows me to gain so much knowledge and meet new people while splitting my week into two different mindsets; one for work projects and one for university assignments.
I am so grateful to be part of the Network75 scheme and excited to see where this opportunity can take me. I still have imposter syndrome sometimes! I would highly recommend the Network75 scheme to anyone who wants to benefit from getting a degree with no student debt while gaining 5 years of hands-on experience in the field".
