Celebrating having over 100 students on the Network75 scheme!
On the 18th of December 2017, Network 75 hosted a celebratory “100 Students Event” to recognise the special milestone of acquiring over 100 Students on our unique scheme. We wanted to take the opportunity to celebrate and thank everyone involved with Network 75 for helping us achieve such an important goal. Without all of our students, mentors and colleagues hard work this would not be possible.
The event began with a welcome from Network 75 founder Professor Steve Thomas, Steve discussed how the scheme was formed and how it has developed into such a popular pathway to a degree.
We were lucky enough to have two Network75 alumni present to our students. Mark Rogers from O’Connor Utilities spoke of his experience as one of the first Civil Engineering students on the scheme with his host company Lewis Civil Engineering. Mark stayed with Lewis Civils for 5 years upon graduation in 2006 as a site Manager on projects for Dwr Cymru Welsh Water. Mark explained how his experience on Network75 at Lewis Civil Engineering led to him managing large projects across Australia for Monadelphous, before returning to the UK to take a position as Operations manager for O’Connor Utilities Ltd.
Network75 graduate Riah Spickett discussed how the scheme has helped her secure a full time role as Technical Support Engineer with GE Aviation Wales. Riah spoke of being given lots of responsibility as part of her training on the scheme which really helped build her confidence both in the workplace and throughout her academic studies. Riah explained she is always keen to promote the scheme to anyone who will listen due to the ability to balance your work and study and the opportunities it has afforded her and others on the scheme upon graduation. Both Riah and Mark were keen to point out that at times the scheme can be challenging but the long term benefits are more than worthwhile.
The final speaker was Jonathan Payne of ARUP, Jonathan talked about finding out about Network75 when Network75 graduate Chris Evans interviewed for a position with the company. Jonathan explained they were pleasantly surprised how such a recent graduate could have such a wealth of experience so early on in their career. Chris went on to join the scheme and the company decided to take its first Network75 student. Jonathan explained they currently have two students on Network75 and are looking to expand this further in other areas, the contribution the Network75 trainees have given to the company so early on in their traineeships as been testament to the individuals and the scheme. The students have fitted in so well within ARUP they are often requested to join project teams early on and are in high demand within the company.
Once presentations had finished to mark the 100 students milestone we captured a very unique photo using the Network75 drone thanks to Adam Stubbs and Lee Parkes. The event concluded with a festive celebration and several photo opportunities thanks to Lee Dare Photography.
On behalf of Network 75 we would like to thank everyone who participated in the event, it was great to see both students, alumni and mentors come together to celebrate a special milestone. We look forward to 2018 being as successful as 2017.
