As part of her Network75 placement at Network Rail's Cardiff Office, Alice is heavily involved with the planning and preparation for the UEFA Champions League Final due to take place in the city centre in 2017.
Alice has given Network75 an insight into her involvement in the transport preparations for the event.
"The UEFA Champions League Final is being held in Cardiff on 3rd June 2017 in the Principality Stadium. The city will see a huge influx of people attending the final and its related festivities. Itl is classed as the biggest single day event in the world in 2017 and is also the biggest sporting event that Wales has ever hosted! A staggering 320,000 people are expected to attend the fan festival and up to 500,000 extra people are due to travel to the city for the men’s final. It is anticipated that 120,000 of these will be travelling by rail".
"As part of the planning and preparation for the final, my day to day role involves attending regular meetings with the Rail Operations Working Group, which is hosted by the Football Association of Wales (FAW) and involves all rail stakeholders and Cardiff Council. I also chair the Train Planning Liaison meeting, which is attended by representatives from Network Rail, Arriva Trains Wales, Great Western Railways, Cross Country and the charter companies. I am a point of contact for Champions League Final related queries and arrangements, as well as updates that are made to associated minutes/action logs for the UEFA Champions League Train Planning Liaison Meeting".
"I have also helped to create a project plan using Microsoft Project in order to ensure that we are on track to meet our deadlines as well as an action tracker to ensure that nothing is missed".
